History On Tap - First Families

Clark County Historical Museum History on Tap returns to the Kiggins Theatre on Tuesday, May 13, presenting First Families – The Next Generation of Vancouver’s African American Community. Join us for a powerful evening of storytelling and history as historian Melissa Williams shares the journey of Vancouver’s African American community from 1940 to 1960. In First Families – The Next Generation of Vancouver’s African American Community, Williams explores how Black families built lives in Southwest Washington during WWII, the challenges they faced post-war, and the lasting impact they made on the city’s cultural landscape. Melissa Williams (she/her) is a U.S. historian specializing in African American history, with over 20 years of contributions to local and regional heritage projects. She currently serves as the Policy Associate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. The 2024-25 History on Tap season is brought to you by Vancouver's Downtown Association and Heritage Bank. Program support provided by Versa Events, C-Tran, The Arts Centered, Clark College Foundation, and Fourth Plain Forward. Tickets to History on Tap are now $5 in advance.
